UW is a gorgeous campus and Seattle is a great place to live, but MN is 35% cheaper, friendlier and artsier. No bad choice here.

Minnesota is fabulous AND there’s no looming major earthquakes 😉

UW is very well reguarded around the world for its graduate research programs. UMN is ok.

Moved from the south to UMN for grad school, would definitely recommend. Snow > overcast.

as a MN girl who lives outside Seattle I will say you can't go wrong with either. Both have a great music scene. I prefer WA winters and summers. Seattle freeze is a real thing with people, though.

I’m from Minneapolis and currently go to UW. The people and culture are better at UMN but the resources and opportunities are better in Seattle. Winters aren’t fun at either.

I got into both, at the end of the day, umn was a cheaper option for out of state, plus offers more scholarships/stacked scholarships. Both are beautiful campus wise but I felt like umn offered more opportunities and provided more like transportation for example, but whatever is important to you at the end of the day should be the main consideration for this decision :)

I’ve spent most of my adult life in these 2 cities. They’re very similar in a lot of ways. Great food, culture, neighborhoods. Mpls is cheaper/better food. Seattle has better weather & mountains.

Gotta say MN, go to grad school cheaply, move here when you have a good job offer.

Half the value of grad school is the name and the network. Go where the education and professional network and practicum/thesis opportunities are better. Full stop.

Where are you from and does it have sun? If the sun shines more than 50% of the year where you're from, UMN

What’s the grad program? I moved for UMN in 2012 and have loved it since. The seasons correlate well with a busy grad school schedule, FWIW

i was between these two schools & originally chose UW until it was time to move and started spiraling over the move/costs. it ultimately cost less to go UMN so i changed & have loved living in mpls!

Minneapolis is one of the best/diverse/affordable food scenes in the country. Worked there for a few months and would def live there. It does get really cold tho.

It’s not always the weather. You’re going to be inside a lot of the time studying and researching. If you had to leave grad school unexpectedly and integrate into the community, which vibe do u like?
