I don't think that's it. It's Ireland, the leaders of 1916 were outcasts right up until the rising, booed after. Sean McDermott was chased out of a town in Cavan a few weeks before. You appear to have a particular political and social ideology, people won't want to be associated with that unless it becomes an acceptable conv in places like the civil service and HSE. They're playing it safe, and 'you're the tallest nail until you're the hammer'.... or simply they don't agree with what you're about.
