The only reason to get physics degree is if you are planning on joining NASA or SpaceX

i mean u probably could be an engineer out of a physics degree.

Going into academia with an advanced degree isn’t about just “teaching” it. It is about research first and foremost, which makes it an important field in its own right.

academia in the sciences is not about teaching. it's about doing funded research within a university setting

Physics is a valuable degree. Many of the world's complex technologies and advancements have been developed by physicists.

Physics is not a bad degree if you plan to switch to engineering for masters. Most of the best engineering professors did physics for undergraduate degrees.

If your only goal is vocational training, sure. Otherwise, hard disagree. The world needs poles and piles of basic science Ph.Ds or the engineers will have nothing new to do.

Don’t just major in physics it’s too broad pick a specific field within it and pursue a masters at minimum if you want a job in the field, it doesn’t hurt pursuing a PHD either, a general physics degree even at a bachelors level still isn’t useless unless you plan on literally becoming a physicist, no you won’t get a job in that field but having it on your resume 100%makes you employable, employers see it and know you’re an intelligent problem solver,

Not a useless degree at all. Why look at degrees in isolation like this. If you want to do physics make sure to take some engineering courses. If you want to do pure math take some stats courses

Physics requires fairly advanced mathematics. I literally cannot think of a more important skill to have in this rapidly changing world, other than maybe being able to communicate said mathematics.

I literally work as an intern at SLAC. There are soo many physicists there that are doing important work to discover new physics. Job demand isn’t that great but it doesn’t mean its a useless degree. People forget national labs exist.

Physics isn’t that worthless though. I’m a propulsion engineer and have my PhD in applied physics. It’s very helpful and awesome 😎

Do you guys know how your phone works ? How anything in the hospital works? Sure a lot of stuff can be engineered but engineers build stuff based off of what physics find.
