WASHINGTON has accused the South African government of showing a “lack of desire” to adequately address rising crime, following the discovery of the bodies of nine women across Ekurhuleni in the past two months. The US State Department made the comments in response to questions about the string of killings that has sparked widespread concern in South Africa. “The US is concerned by rising crime in SA and the lack of desire from the government to adequately address it,” a State Department spokesperson said. The department also expressed condolences to the victims’ families and said the investigations remain under the jurisdiction of South African authorities. The comments come after SAPS confirmed that a ninth woman’s body was discovered in Dawn Park, Ekurhuleni, on 17 September.
