@ashleyjames: Channelling my inner Elle Woods on @thismorning today to discuss the all-female space crew flying into suborbital space. 🛸💅✨ I will share my full thoughts when I get the clip for those who missed it but I just wanted to say that whilst I fully support the criticism of the vulgarity of billionaires investing in vanity projects in space whilst our own planet needs to much financial support what I will also say is this: A lot of the comments and criticism has been horrifically misogynistic. Articles saying it’s a step back for womankind because the women’s outfits are fashionable and they have makeup and blow dries. Horrific commentary and discussion about the plastic surgery and work they have had done. It harks back to the idea that women must reject femininity in order to be “taken seriously”. It’s ok to be beauty AND brains. For women to love makeup and blow dries and fashionable clothing and pop music and still be intelligent and smart! It’s also why I LOVE following @kelliegerardi! 💖🚀💅 Regardless of what we think about the space mission, lots of young girls and boys have seen an all female team fly to space. Hopefully it will encourage little girls to pursue STEM careers. It challenges perceptions of what an astronaut looks like and might inspire a new generation of female astronauts. We should also celebrate What I’d like to see is Bezos follow this mission up with actual, systemic change: More funding for women in STEM allow more women access to aerospace careers. And also an opportunity to Highlight the women already doing the hard work behind the scenes! Otherwise, it risks becoming another instance where women are visible but not powerful. Anyway, it’s also worth celebrating @amandangocnguyen who made history as the first Vietnamese and Southeast Asian woman in space! 🙌🏻❤️ #fyp #legallyblonde
