@emmiesfarm: DIY Cottage Pleat Curtains 🪡 These curtains are so simple to make, with some basic sewing skills you can save yourself some serious cash! 1. Measure the window you’re making curtains for, from the curtain pole to where you’d like the curtains to hang to. 2. Next you will calculate how much fabric you’ll need. You’ll want to make each side of the curtain the full width of the window, adding 10cm each side for the seams, another 16cm at the top for the frill and another 10 at the bottom for the hem. Basically- ‘your window width + 20cm’ and ‘your window height + 26cm’. 3. Take the bottom of each curtain, folding it up 5cm, and then another 5cm to create a hem. Secure this in place using a “hem stitch”. 4. Using a machine, turn up the bottom of your lining fabric by approx 15-20cm to ensure it’s shorter than your curtain fabric. 5. Place your curtain fabric, face down, and lay your lining fabric on top, face up, so that the hems are on the same edge. Pull your lining fabric up by approx 1 inch to stop it popping out the bottom of the finished curtain. Fold each side of the curtain and lining in by 5cm and then by another 5cm and hem stitch to secure. 6. Fold the top of the curtain over by 16cm and pin in place to hold, envelope in your corners. Take your rufflette tape, leaving the strings loose at each end, pin this just above where you have folded the curtain over. Sew in place using a straight stitch. 7. Hold the strings of the tape and gather the curtain up until it’s half of its original width. Tie the strings at each end to secure the ruffle! 8.
