@happy.smallholding: Here’s how to make a raised bed! I’m sharing the measurements for our grow along bed, but you can make any size you like by adjusting the measurements. Equipment & materials needed: 🌱 Wooden boards totalling roughly 8m in length for a single height bed and 16m in length for a double height bed. We’ve used oak for its durability. Always make sure you get your wood from an FSC certified source. 🌱 4 x square corner posts. These can be offcuts from other projects. They don’t have to be identical as long as they are square. 🌱 Around 100 x screws 70mm in length (depending on how many boards you’re using) 🌱 A drill (see if you can borrow one if you don’t have one!) 🌱 A saw (I’m using a sliding miter saw in the video but you really don’t need one - you can easily use a regular hand saw!) 🌱 A tape measure 🌱 A pencil 🌱 Optional: off-cuts of wood to join boards together (if needed). How to build: In this video I’ve stacked 2 boards on top of each other for a taller bed. You can stack as many as you like to achieve the desired height, or just have 1 board depth. 🌱 Measure & cut your wooden boards to size. For a 3m x 1m bed your long sides need to be 3m each, & your short sides need to be 1m minus the thickness of the boards x 2 to account for the fact that the long sides will overlap the short edge. For example my boards are 3cm thick so I cut the short edge to be 1m minus 3cm x 2 so 94cm. 🌱 Cut the corner posts - you want them to be just under the height of the finished raised bed. 🌱 Now make the shorter sides: fix the boards for your short edges to the corner posts. Drill from the outside of the edge of the bed for a stronger fixing (drill through the board to the post). 🌱 You can now fix the long side of your raised bed to the short sides, again drilling from the outside of the bed to the post for a stronger fixing. 🌱 Note: my wooden boards weren’t long enough to make the 3m length so I joined 2 pieces of wood together by screwing an offcut of wood to 2 boards.
