@authordawndugle: Surviving a recession or economic downturn while keeping your clothes fresh. 1. Use only 2 tablespoons of laundry detergent per load. That’s all you need. Any more makes it too hard to rinse all the soap out of the load and will leave your clothes dirtier and scratchy. 2. Use vinegar instead of fabric softener. Fabric softeners tear down fabrics faster and can make your clothes fall apart. Vinegar softens your clothes and sanitizes them without weakening the fabric. (If you use 2T, your clothes won’t smell like a salad.) Put the vinegar in the softener tray or rinse cycle. 3. Use Dawn dish soap on stains. A drop or two on the stain. Then let it soak in for an hour or two before laundering as usual. . . #laundrytok #authorsoftiktok #EduTok #recession #savingmoney #fypシ #BookTok #genxtiktokers #dawndugle #genxbooktok #genx
I make a paste with dawn and baking soda for the really bad stains. Let it set for a few hours, then wash. Always works.

I think the best stain remover is a bar of Fels Naptha and a soft toothbrush. I got a bar of it a year ago and it’s barely gone down. Wet the stain first then apply it and wash as usual

For stains, just spray cheap blue window cleaner on it. The stuff that has ammonia. Gets out every stain I have ever had as a parent - blood, dirt, oil, spaghetti sauce, you name it! Can even

A veterinarian taught us if you bathe a dog, cover their fur w/ Dawn dishwashing detergent, let it sit on their coat 5-10 minutes, then wash/rinse it will smother/pull out fleas.

Great tips. Thanks. Do we add the vinegar directly to the barrel of clothing or does it go in the fabric softener dispenser area of the machine?

I've been using vinegar as a softener for years. It works. Thanks for the tip on the amount of soap. I just learned that I've been using too much!

All these things, and running the machines when the rates are lowest. I have a “tiered” rate plan so I always wash during the day, never after 4 pm.

fabric softeners are also petroleum based, ergo flammable

If you wash a load without detergent and still get suds, you have been using way too much soap. It leaves your clothes dirty and can cause them to smell. Adding scent beads to that won’t help.
