yesterday, i experienced something that i genuinely don't think i'll ever be able to put into words properly. 😭❤️ i went to a gospel event, and one of the artists performing was lebo sekgobela. anyone who knows me knows just how much i love this woman and how deeply her music means to me. but i don't think anyone could ever understand just how much she means to me unless they knew the story behind it. 2023 and 2024 were, without a doubt, some of the darkest years of my life. i was struggling in ways that i didn't know how to explain to people, and there were moments where i genuinely didn't know if i would make it through. i was fighting battles in my mind that felt bigger than me, and there were days when simply getting through the day felt like an achievement. and somehow, during those years, lebo sekgobela's music found me. there were songs of hers that i would listen to when i couldn't explain what i was feeling. songs i would play when i was crying, when i felt completely hopeless, when i needed something to hold onto. her voice became a source of comfort to me in a season where i desperately needed comfort. her music reminded me to pray when i didn't know what else to do. it reminded me that God was still there, even when i couldn't feel Him. i genuinely believe her music helped carry me through a season i wasn't sure i would survive. so yesterday, i was standing in the crowd watching her perform, completely unaware of what was about to happen. i was just there, singing along, taking everything in, and then suddenly i realised she had walked off the stage. and she came straight towards me. she hugged me. for what felt like the longest and most beautiful ten minutes of my life. 😭 and i just broke down. i cried on her like a little child because in that moment, i wasn't just hugging an artist that i admire. i was hugging someone whose voice had been with me through some of the hardest moments of my life. i was hugging a person whose music had comforted me when i felt like nobody could. i was hugging a piece of a chapter of my life that i had somehow managed to survive. and while i was crying, she kept telling me that i was going to be okay. i don't know what she saw when she looked at me. i don't know what made her come down from that stage and choose me out of an entire crowd. maybe she was simply being kind. maybe God placed her in that moment for me. maybe she saw something in me that i couldn't see in myself. but whatever the reason was, i will never forget it. because there was a time when i couldn't imagine getting to the person i am today. and yesterday, the same woman whose music helped me through that darkness was physically standing in front of me, holding me and telling me that everything was going to be okay. that moment felt bigger than a hug. it felt like a reminder. a reminder that i made it. a reminder that the girl who once felt so lost is still here. a reminder that even the darkest chapters eventually turn into stories you get to tell from the other side. to mama lebo, you probably have no idea what that moment meant to me. you may never fully understand what your music has done for me, and you may never know how many times your voice gave me something to hold onto when i felt like i had nothing left. but thank you. thank you for every song. thank you for every prayer. thank you for every word that reached someone you didn't even know was listening. thank you for being part of my healing without even knowing my name. and thank you for that hug. i will carry it with me for the rest of my life. 🤍 yesterday wasn't just the day i met one of my favourite artists. yesterday felt like God reminding me, in the gentlest way possible: “look how far you've come.” and honestly… i needed that reminder more than she will ever know. 🥹🤍 #lebosekgobela #healing
