The Shiba Inu is the most interesting dog, historically and genetically speaking. They have so many weird traits, even have extremely small litters, around 2 puppies at a time.

The amount of time the Norwegian Lundehound gets brought up in vet school as an exception to the rule is crazy

In Norway they are not allowed to sell the bread but you can foster them, but if it is a healthy dog you need to bread them.

Is genetic rescue of a breed that has trouble being alive a good thing morally?

Beaucerons have a double dew claw, so they also have 6 toes.

Is there something about dog genetics that makes them capable of being bred to have such wildly different morphologies and traits?

What’s the COI of Lundehunds? My breed (Miniature Bull Terrier) has one of the highest genetic COI’s in purebred dogs and nobody’s doing any sort of preservation or genetic rescue or outcross programs

isn't it selective inbreeding that allowed the dog to have extra toes to begin with? growing a toe would take millenia would it not?

You did the video! Yay! Have you looked into low uric acid Dalmatians? interesting example of a simple outcross fixing a problem.

They are to be bred out with other breeds to expand their genetic diversity. Looks can be bred back in 3-4 generations.

they don't descend from grey wolves. dogs and grey wolves share the same ancestor which was domesticated at some point but not every single wolf wanted to be domesticated

My family had a bichon frise and she had extra toes on her back legs, one had two little toes together, she couldn't use them, they just sat there, so when she was spayed they took her extra toes too
