Shelter worker. It’s likely he’s trying to “get it” before someone else potentially does. He doesn’t see you as a threat that will take his food, but he doesn’t know that with who comes in next.

He looks like a staffy breed and I can attest they love to greet with a toy. Maybe try a toy near his bed and see if he goes for that instead. thank you for saving him!!

My dog is not a rescue, I’ve had him since he was 5 weeks old but he does that every time my 2 year old nephew comes in my room. lol
