I do the same thing. When I’m talking to somebody with an accent, I start speaking with an accent. I have to make a conscious effort not to do it.

Moses it’s code switching, I’m a scouser and do this when I talk to someone who isn’t from Liverpool, or even in educational/professional settings.

Sorry but I hate it when people use the phrase “like he has an accent” or whatever. American accent is also an accent. Hebrew accent is an accent. Everybody speaks with an accent.

When I speak to family in NY, I speak with a heavy Brooklyn accent, when I speak to relatives, even thought it's in English, it's with a heavy Yiddish accent. Back in Calif, it's Calif accent, Dude. Don't know why, just do. Actually I know why. When I say Chaw let or caw fee, my LA friends tease me. When I say Choc let, or caf fee, my Brooklyn friends think I'm putting on airs.
