the illiad never explicitly calls them lovers, but every time achilles refers to patroclus he calls him the man he loves or the man he holds dearer than all men and while this is not outright saying

honestly i think the essence of Achilles and Patroclus relationship was meant to be way more than any romantic or platonic relationship, it's pretty clear that they loved each other on a level only
