The thing is we aren’t aware of how well trained your dog is, and it’s frightening for someone like me with a toddler who is dog face height to see such a large potentially dangerous dog off the lead.

As a dog owner myself (large and small breeds), all dogs should be on the lead in town centres and walking along roads. Regardless how well trained they are.

imo (as a dog owner) your dog should always be on a leash unless in an enclosed space, it's safer for everyone. you don't know what other dogs are gonna do etc

I’m sure he’s a good dog but should still be on a lead in this area. You might trust your dog but others might be nervous. Just use a leash and let him off in a more suitable area to run.
