Hospital Kota Tinggi A Look Back Hospital Kota Tinggi has a long history that goes back to 1913. It started as a small hospital with only 3 wards and 60 beds. At that time, Kota Tinggi was growing because of the rubber estates, mining activities and nearby villages. The hospital was important for the local people who needed medical treatment. This old photo is believed to show the hospital around 1948, during the time of the Malayan Emergency. Life was very different then. The hospital had to care for local villagers, estate workers and security personnel. Diseases, accidents and other health problems were common. Looking at this old photograph, we can see how simple the hospital was. There were many beds in one large ward, and patients stayed close to each other. The building and facilities were very different from what we see in hospitals today. As the years passed, Hospital Kota Tinggi continued to grow. Between 1976 and 1995, the hospital went through major renovations and improvements. Then, in 2004, a new four-storey block was added. It included maternity and women's health services, Wad Kenanga for children and Wad Tanjung for Class 2 patients. Today, Hospital Kota Tinggi has 6 wards and 158 beds. It continues to serve people from Kota Tinggi and nearby areas, including places towards Mersing and Ulu Tiram. When we look at this old photograph today, it gives us a small picture of what life and healthcare were like many years ago. The people, the beds and the simple surroundings may look very different from today, but the purpose of the hospital remains the same to care for people and serve the local community. From just 3 wards and 60 beds in 1913 to 6 wards and 158 beds today, Hospital Kota Tinggi has grown together with the community for more than a century.
