After an 18-hour international travel day + Cody not feeling well, we didn’t know if we were going to make Thanksgiving. He woke up dizzy with no color in his face, slow sipped two 32 oz. mason jars of water with heavy amounts of electrolytes, and then looked at me and said, “You wanna give it a shot?” It was a slow walk to the car, but I remember Thanksgiving three years ago when we sat in a rehab facility, Cody in a wheelchair and a neck brace, able to feed himself for one of the first times in two months, begging God that he would one day walk again. We pulled up and it was raining, but I remember two years ago when we sat under blankets freezing by the fire on Thanksgiving in Portugal while everyone we love broke bread thousands of miles away, praying our efforts would bear fruit. Cousin Ali sang the National Anthem on a microphone, Mama Helch asked Cousin Mike if his stuffing was Italian to which he replied, “If you’re asking me if there’s garlic in there, the answer is always yes.” Uncle Skip turned Grandpa swooped in to grab Baby Luca before his little fingers grabbed the hot oven door, and I remembered Thanksgiving in Portugal last year when we vowed it would be our last one away. I imagine whoever wrote the song ‘There’s No Place Like Home For The Holidays’ once sat by a lonely fire far, far away knowingly for the last time. The things we are grateful for are far too many to count. Happy Thanksgiving, Internet Fam. We love you all 💛 (I sobbed the entire time it took me to write this.)
