Mount Isa isn't that bad, if you've been to major cities in the USA then you'll be safe in Mount Isa. Less dangerous then say New York but more "dangerous" for us Aussies then say Brisbane

People are legit trying to scare you mate - it’s very much a country town, there is a large mining community in the surrounding area, but it’s really not that bad!

Being with a local family will be fantastic. All her friends will adopt you. Plus a warmer winter compared to southern states. The dad has a plane! Cool weekends in Cairns!

Qlder with Mt Isa experience here... like everything, it's what you make it. Crime is high, so take precaution but it can be a really lovely, beautiful place, a different way of life.

okay mount isa is not as small as people think. Make sure you like the smell of the mines and also hardly any shops. Alot of places and families have left

Ignore all the negatives. You’ll have a great time. Just be smart & careful so you’re safe, but a lot of people commenting would have no idea of the beauty & enjoyment in remote areas of Australia!

Two years ago I completed my 88 days in Mount Isa! It really depends on where you live and work. I had a great time and met some lovely people.

Mt Isa is not as bad as what people think. You’ll have a great time out there for 6 months. It’s got some beautiful spots to see and a good community where people look out for you. It’ll be different, but it won’t be terrible.
