"PAGSA-SAN JUAN" Feast of St. John the Baptist 2025 Pagsa-San Juan, also known as the Taong Putik Festival, is an annual religious celebration held on June 24 in Brgy. Bibiclat, Aliaga, Nueva Ecija. During the festival, devotees cover themselves in mud and decorate their bodies with dried banana leaves to resemble St. John the Baptist. They visit houses to ask for alms or candles, which they offer to St. John the Baptist (San Juan Bautista). Brief History: Wartime Miracle The Taong Putik Festival originated, or its devotion to St. John the Baptist intensified, due to a miracle in 1944 during the Japanese occupation of the Philippines. After local guerrillas killed Japanese soldiers, the army rounded up village men for execution. As the villagers prayed, a sudden downpour occurred, which the Japanese saw as an omen, leading them to call off the execution. The villagers celebrated by rolling in the mud. This event deepened their devotion to St. John the Baptist, associating the saving rain with his role in baptizing Jesus in the Jordan River. #shotoniphone #culture #fyp
