Hi, it's Juliana! Have you ever had your forgiveness used against you like this? Here's what's going on... You confront them about something. But they don't want to take responsibility for what they did because they're narcissistic. What do I mean? Well, narcissistic people often want to be seen in a positive light or as the victim. If they were to acknowledge what they did and the impact it had on you… That would put them in a negative light. So what do they do? They avoid taking responsibility like it's the plague. And using your forgiveness against you is one of the ways they do it. If you say something like: “What you did really hurt me.” Instead of addressing what they did, they shift the focus onto what you did afterward. “But you forgave me.” “But you stayed.” “But you kept talking to me.” And what this communicates is: “If I really treated you as badly as you're saying, you wouldn't have done those things.” And now suddenly they don't have to defend their behavior. You're the one who has to explain yourself: Why DID I forgive them? Why DID I stay? Why DID I laugh with them afterward? Why DID I keep loving them? Said differently... The “negative” spotlight isn't on them anymore. It's on you. If you need someone to talk to about all of this, you can always send me a DM or schedule a session with me. My team and I help people heal from narcissistic abuse, and many of us have experienced it ourselves, so we're here if you need us. To your healing, Juliana ❤️‍🩹
