@jaywilsonmedia: Sony shooters use markers to shoot horizontal and frame for vertical to stretch content! 2 problems with that, you lose quality and if you don’t have a lens wide enough you get a crop tighter than shooting vertical

Jack Madden :
stop shooting horizontal. Shoot vertical, frame your subject using horizontal guides, and get 2 formats from one clean setup

I shot a lot in horizontal and vertical and I feel like the quality difference is massive when having to crop, even on expensive Glas and an a7siii /fx3

fr a professional, dont shoot horizontal. plan ot earlier..discuss with team . shoot with an intension and proper framing for the targeted platform. u will lose the intended compression and framing for the horizontal shot if u keep thinking about how its going to look on a vertical crop.

Reginald “Regg” Smith :
I agree but one thing I will say is if you know the content is going vertical, it will play a difference in the compression of the depth of field. The same framed shot vertical will give a diff look

Depends on what the video will be used for. If I’m shooting for only social - vertical all day.

But if you don’t have a multi-thousand-euro camera that can handle cropping from horizontal to vertical, then it’s a whole different situation.

Do this if you don’t care about composition.

No need to shoot horizontally if you’re posting on TikTok 🤷♂️

you will lose natural lens distortion, that gives that circular softness

I do both. i shoot an fx3 with an osmo pocket 3 attached to the top for vertical. makes for quick social clips and then higher quality that I can work with too
