I heard this audio and immediately knew I had to share some of these together… Truth is, I get so caught up in trying to make things work, that I forget what it’s like to enjoy just making things. Every one of my hobbies has been commandeered by a rather modern notion of trying to keep up. Keep up with bills, with relevancy, with taking care of those around me financially. I feel like if I can’t take care someone financially, how can I do anything else? And so money begins to rule my life to an extent. And because I grew up poor, I fear ever going back to that. And I forget how important it is to just be a person, and not a machine. I set up all these invisible quotas for myself to meet, and everyone asks “Christian how are ya doing?” And I say fine, but I’m judging all the things I’m falling short of achieving. And then I remember that growth for the sake of growth is the ideology of the cancer cell, and how true is that quote. And I’m not meant to be a cancer, neither is my work, or my life. I’m meant to be here, in the present, laughing, making, doing things that mean something real. Some days you won’t do as well as before. Some years might slumps, what feels like backward sliding down a steep hill that you’ve taken so long to traverse. But maybe falling backwards isn’t always terrible. Maybe you’ll see a flower you didn’t notice before, maybe you become more grateful, and maybe that gratitude is meant to do more than you know. I hope everyone has had a good day, or is going to. Life is short. Make beautiful things for the sake of it, even if it’s imperfect, and even if it brings you nothing else. #mrskelly #life #childhood #grief #growingup
