currently doing 4 gym days (2x upper body, 2x lower body strength sessions) + running 54 miles a week. can confirm the recovery has been the toughest part

You can optimize both, just look at truett hanes. 10k pull ups in one day and can run a 2:38 marathon

I would also add that the point where training for one starts to negatively affect the other is much further down the progression than most people realize.

Former USMC fitness coordinator here. I 100% agree. Two sets to failure and quality sleep are key to simultaneously maximize cardio and strength gains. 👍

I ran a mile in 13 minutes last Saturday 🥲 but I made a goal to start running once a week. I do cardio every workout but not running lol.. changing that 🫡

Can you explain how to manage leg muscle energy when starting to run and still looking to squat / train legs? Best stretches and lifts would be great

A lot of people don’t realise that coming into running after being a gym bro is actually great because your strength and stability will help prevent injuries, and top runners will all lift weights

Since I’m not a professional- I just do both and listen to my body. Personally, running gives me the best mental health benefits that lifting doesn’t give me. I just knock out 3 miles every morning and it serves me well as a generally fit adult

Been running since November, lifting since Jan. This month I feel INCREDIBLE. It took a while. I just ran a 10k. Doing a 15k in June. Lift 3 days a week, run 3. Has taken time but protein helps.

I used to powerlift and now I’m working towards a 3:15 marathon. I still weight train, but went from 5x5 PPL to 3x12 PPL and find it much more impactful for my endurance

Any tips on what to do specifically for running recovery in the legs? I think since gaining a little more mass and also taking up longer runs, my shins have been taking some heavier impact than usual
