my biggest pet peeve is "we" language when it comes to action planning. like Who is "we" Sheila? Delegate!

I feel like this is me sometimes. as much managerial stuff I think I'm doing, sometimes I expect them to take the initiative that I didn't ask them to take. I need to remind myself they can't read my mind lol

Omg put this on my boss’s fyp not mine. I’ve literally told him to his face “you send a general email and no one owns it” and his reply is “I don’t want to micromanage.” Bih u the director, DIRECT!

my manager isn't kind at all and often sends rapid fire messages to the team. he gives no deadlines to project but then he randomly checks in - aggressively - on the status of the project

Reminds me of how when there’s an emergency, we’re told to point out a person and ask them to take a specific action “hey you! In the red glasses — call an ambulance , you in the pink shirt find water

This is why I’ve always shied away from large projects and do those uniquely complicated ones that nobody else can do so I can function on a team of one. 🙈

2 of the group are expected to do the extra & then say, “yay team!!!” & stay on the 2 & make sure their jobs & the extra are 100% perfect. Correct then if it’s not. The others will learn.

Its making sure you're in a middle ground. Micromanaging doesnt work for 80% of people. All hands off works for almost no one. Finding the middle ground is key

I had this conversation with a new project manager the other day as a SME. We were having some friction/frustration so I was honest about what I needed from them to confidently do my job. It was good!

Omg my boss will send an email to four for us with ‘can someone deal with this? Like ma’am you have emailed a paralegal, 2 associates and senior associate. We all have pretty clearly defined roles. Just email the person whose job it is 😭😭 now we aren’t sure if you’re trying to politely say you think the person who usually does this would need help (she’s not, she forgets who does what and is being lazy)

maybe so but on the flip side if you have a team of high performers with diverse skills sometimes letting them pick from the list of to-do’s can work fine. I had a manager like that and we were a very productive team because we all just gravitated towards what we knew we could do well and quickly deliver results. otherwise, it takes some work on the part of the manager to get to know their team’s strengths (& weaknesses to promote development) and to know very well what it will take to complete tasks so that they can delegate effectively & lots of managers just don’t care to do that so they essentially end up being the bottleneck 😩
