In therapy, this is referred to “a Christ complex” where we feel we have to sacrifice ourselves for others even to the detriment to our own physical and mental health. Men and women both .

As a kid growing up Mormon, I used to think about Jesus and think that I could do what he did, suffer and die for others, and then I would immediately feel bad because that was probably blasphemous
