While reading the manga Vagabond, I came across this phrase—and ever since, I've been thinking about its meaning. "Truly strong people are kind"—what does that even mean? How is kindness related to strength? In truth—directly, and very deeply. Can you really call someone strong if they can’t control their anger, whether it’s during an argument or any other conflict? I don’t think so. Only a truly strong person can restrain their emotions and avoid turning to cruelty. Only someone genuinely strong can show mercy to their enemy. A strong person always possesses self-control. It's often extremely difficult not to start a fight with rude people, enemies, or those who constantly radiate negativity and try to provoke you emotionally. And only a person with inner strength can keep their composure and remain kind even in the face of such people. These are the kinds of actions that deserve praise and recognition. Many people mistakenly see kindness as a sign of weakness. But I disagree. A weak person can never admit they’re wrong or choose to step back. In our world, staying kind is much harder. The path of kindness is a path full of obstacles, because there will always be those whose goal is to break your kindness. Kindness is a choice you make under the pressure of the world around you.
