@movementmomma: Today, I spoke at the U.S. Supreme Court not only as the Director of Public Policy and Programs @nbjconthemove, but as a #MarylandMother whose ancestry in this state goes back to the colonial era. The state of Maryland simply would not be possible without the stories of my family and families like mine - Black, LGBTQ+, and most importantly, Christian. I refuse to let people acting from prejudice use God as their excuse. Not when God has shown through creation that God adores diversity. There wouldn't be thousands of species of birds or Christian denominations if God didn't enjoy creating something new in every iteration. Our kids must learn about different kinds of people, families, and religions in order to thrive in today's economy. And, as long as I am forced to pay property taxes (one of the most expensive rates in the entire state), my child deserves to read about her two mom household in school the same as the kid with a mom and dad, a single parent, two dads, a legal or adoptive guardian, or kinship or foster care households should be able to read about theirs. My child should also learn about different religions, neurodiversity, disabilities, and ethnicities. Reading about others won't suddenly make her less Christian or turn her into an ethnicity she isn't. Hopefully, the U.S. Supreme Court will consider all families and all faiths and not the narrow and biased views of a few. #scotus #books #lgbtq #inclusiveeducation #representation #MyFamilyMatters
