Model only. Don’t withhold from your clients/students. They will be prompt dependent. Model meaningful language and if they repeat you, it will be more effective. Speaking from experience as a mama.

My kid using sign language at the same time as speaking is what for him speaking too! I noticed you doing it at the beginning. He was nonverbal early on, but it’s like having some other method of communication WITH talking helped make the connection.

I struggle so much with this 😩I don’t feel like I can withhold (I know that was just an eg) so I just can’t get them to the point of imitating the modelled language. I know a ND affirming approach is to model without expectation but I just can’t help them progress from grabbing/dysreg

That’s the most gentle way I’ve seen. All those videos annoy the hell out of me with their over stimulating way of getting the kids attention. As someone with AuDHD watching it alone was triggering. Thank you for making it nicer 💜

Just curious, why did you choose to use a switch with him as opposed to a SGD like LAMP or Tobii with a vocab builder? i love learning more about other clinicians perspectives on aac/low tech☺️

So my ECI speech therapist said they can only do in home and she said they are only going to coach us not the kid. Why is this? I thought I would be taking him to a facility like this to learn
