Video was not super clear. Big trucks, and train brakes have strong springs that lock the brakes, until a high pressure air system at each wheel holds the pads, or shoes, away from the brake drum, or rotor. Loosely called a brake can. Each “brake can” releases the brake when the air is applied. There are 2 types of braking. First is Parking/Emergency/breakaway brake. This is no air to any brake cans, so all brakes apply. Truck leaves the chat, and all trailer spring brakes apply. Second is supply braking. The pedal on the floor varies air supply to all brake cans, so you vary air pressure, and slowly stop, instead of full lock up. It’s truly genius, whilst being problematic, at the same time.

It’s because the breaks use a type of air pressure that makes the vehicle stop how do I know this? Because my dad has been a truck driver for nearly his whole life yes he was driving at the age of ducking 10 and he still does it today and I go with him at times which is how I know this
