The school I went to the MOT and OTD students learn the exact same things and take the same classes. The OTD students just have an extra semester of capstone/research.

If you are in a MOT program and they transition to a doctorate, you will be grandfathered in, meaning you won’t be required to get a doctorate and you can still sit for boards and apply for jobs

Hey, so a MOTRL here who went back for her OTD (graduating next month). Honestly? I only went so I can teach. I’m learning the same stuff over and over again!

Find a program that focuses on both. I’m finishing my OTD didactic portion in a few weeks and my program is heavy on research and client care. It is a lot more work on the front end but it’s worth it.

Also most universities I’ve heard want/require a PHD or a post professional OTD for professors. I think ACOTE requires a certain mix percentages- I could be wrong about that though!

Some schools I’ve looked into I would only be eligible for a OTD since the MSOT is for those who did their undergrad in OT.
