Here’s what I learned after detailing private jets for 8 years. When I started, I didn’t even know what an FBO was. I thought detailing was about making something look good. I quickly learned it’s about responsibility. When you’re working around a multi-million (sometimes $50M+) aircraft, you feel the pressure immediately. One wrong chemical, one missed step on a checklist, one careless ladder placement, and you’re not just fixing paint. You’re explaining yourself to a pilot, a director of maintenance, or an owner who values precision more than excuses. I learned that “good enough” doesn’t exist in aviation. There’s either done properly, or not done at all. I learned that relationships matter more than marketing. The ramp talks. Pilots talk. FBO managers talk. If you solve problems and make their lives easier, you’ll never need to chase work. If you create problems, you won’t last long. I learned that speed impresses people at first… but consistency keeps you in business. I learned that most of the growth didn’t come from polishing aluminum. It came from building systems, training people correctly, answering emails fast, showing up early, and standing behind our work when something wasn’t perfect. And maybe the biggest lesson- this industry will humble you fast. Weather delays. AOG situations. Last-minute departures. Tight turns. You can’t control everything. But you can control how prepared you are. Eight years later, I still get that same feeling when I walk onto a ramp before sunrise. It’s quiet. It’s serious. It’s earned. This isn’t just cleaning planes. It’s responsibility, reputation, and long-term thinking. #aircraftdetailing #aviation #detailing
