@the.krista.k: I touched on this in a post earlier today, but I wanted to go a little deeper into why I started doing this work. After Hurricane Ian hit my city in 2022, destruction was everywhere... homes under 15 feet of water, countless heartbreaking losses…. entire neighborhoods left unrecognizable. It changed Southwest Florida forever. And in the middle of it all, I found myself volunteering to help people who had lost their photos. Photos that held lifetimes of valuable memories. I’ve always known the value of a photo and the importance of protecting those images. But it wasn’t until I saw people digging through soggy albums, desperately hoping to salvage even one smiling face, that I realized how vulnerable we all are to losing them. And the unfortunate truth is you don’t need a hurricane for that to happen. It can be humidity. A leaking roof. Rodents in the attic. Or just years of forgetting they were even there. I don’t like calling this new mission of mine a silver lining because watching friends lose everything is not something you “spin.” But I did walk away with a new purpose. One that keeps me moving forward even now. And that’s helping YOU protect the moments that matter most before they’re lost forever.
