I feel like that part of vampire lore can probably be traced to the inherent western conception of private property and home/land ownership.

I read a book called Elatsoe where a native woman uses the inverse of this trick to banish a vampire from an entire *region* by claiming ownership of the land in the name of her people

See this is why I was confused when Dracula entered the asylum after Renfield’s invitation because the asylum was owned by Seward. Granted, Stoker wasn’t very consistent.

This raises a question though, does it ever state it needs to be the owner? Because I was under the impression it was just that they can’t go into a doorway leading to an interior without consent from a mortal

that's actually a plot point in Elatsoe. Most people assume that the invitation thing is a myth until an indigenous woman invokes it on a white vampire

hilariously funny skit. however it is based in incomplete historical knowledge and misunderstanding of the vampire myth. in reverse order, it supposed to be invitation by the owners specifically. so they would have to get permission from the nature tribe original to the region. or, in most cases where the dwelling is mo longer attached to the land it's on, the bank ceo that owns the dwelling mortgages. also, technically, all land and dwellings have been stolen via genocide ever sents pre written history. even us indigenous Americans have story's of genociding others for the land and resources, not just the "giants" some have stories of but fully other tribes and people we just wiped the fuck out. so technically in no instance could a vampire NOT acknowledge the homestead act AND freely enter any dwelling.
