@fathersimonteller: Meat’s back on the menu…at least just for this week. . Thanks for following along for our meatless Friday series during lent. Now that it’s Easter, it’s time to feast! A lot of people have been asking why Catholics don’t eat meat on Fridays during Lent. What a lot of people don’t realize, is that it’s part of the Catholic tradition to fast from meet on all Fridays during the year, except for two: the Friday after Christmas and the Friday after Easter. From the first century, Friday, the day of the crucifixion has been traditionally observed as a day of abstaining from flesh meat to honor Christ who sacrificed his flesh on a Friday. This is a way for us to “take up our Cross and follow Christ” (see Lk 9:23). But there are some seasons where fasting is inappropriate, and it is time to feast: “how can they fast while the bridegroom is with them?” (Mt 9:14). These are the seasons when we celebrate the greatest mysteries of the Christian faith: the nativity of our Lord, and the resurrection of Jesus from the dead. This is why during the week following Christmas and Easter, the fast from meat on Fridays is lifted that being said, go to Chick-fil-A today and order a spicy chicken sandwich, and eat it in honor of the Risen Lord! #easter #friday #catholic

I’ve always struggled with the idea that abstaining from meat was a penance. I like meat well enough, but I also like fish and other non-meat foods. 🤷🏻‍♀️
