@drelisabethpotter: 📍Checking in from Redbud Surgery Center If you’re having lymph nodes removed during breast cancer surgery this might be something you’ve never heard of, but should. Today I’m performing Immediate Lymphatic Reconstruction (ILR) for a patient having an axillary dissection. She was facing a 30% risk of developing lymphedema—swelling in the arm that can be lifelong and difficult to manage. But there’s a way to reduce that risk, sometimes to under 10%. Immediate Lymphatic Reconstruction (ILR) is a highly technical procedure where I create a new pathway for lymphatic fluid to drain into the venous system, protecting long-term arm function and quality of life. If you or someone you love is preparing for surgery involving lymph node removal, ask your surgeon about ILR. Not every center offers it, but we do here at Redbud Surgery Center for patients across the country. This could be a game-changer for your recovery and your future 💙
It’s so frustrating I follow you but none of your videos show up on my page…

I had this procedure done last year after months of fighting with UHC. They never approved it but my employer made a decision to cover it (self insured) and I felt very lucky to be able to get it done

This is wonderful! I live in the UK and after an auxiliary dissection I developed lymphoedema. My right arm is 44% larger than my left. The main stay of treatment here is compression garments. What Drs here don’t get is the psychological impact of lymphoedema. I can never were clothing on my upper body that fits. I always have to buy for the larger arm. So I might be a medium but have to buy XL!! The constant worry about cellulitis is also an issue. I applaud you for doing this work.

That is so awesome, I am a lymphedema therapist and to hear about this is very inspiring. Is this done same time as ALND.

Would this reconstruction be an option even 3 years post axillary dissection and lumpectomy with mild lymphedema? 🤞🏼

Wow! I didn’t know such a procedure existed. I wore a compression sleeve and glove for I don’t even know how long. Maybe a year? I thought I would have it forever. My hand was like a baseball mitt.
