Here’s a quick guide to scoring and descriptors if your condition isn’t the same every day: Think long-term: PIP assesses how you're affected over 12 months, not just on your worst or best days. 50% rule: If a descriptor applies on more than half the days, that’s the one that counts. Multiple descriptors? Choose the one that applies the most often. Reliability matters: You must be able to do an activity safely, repeatedly, reliably, and in a timely way. Awaiting treatment? Assessment is based on your current condition, not expected improvements. Use aids or get support? That can increase your score — include everything you use or should reasonably be using. Support dogs & people count — it’s not just about what you do alone. REMEMBER: If you can’t do something safely or repeatedly, even if you can sometimes, it still counts as a limitation.
