It just means excuse me here in the Midwest. Mostly women say it because we are trained to be out of the way/ take up little space. I refuse to use sorry this way.

Omg yes… my Russian teacher, if he hears me say sorry, looks at the clock and will say “wow, we’ve only been here [X] minutes and you’re already sorry”!

Sometimes when I’m walking past someone on a crowded sidewalk or in a store I’ll say “sorry, I’m just gonna scooch right by ya haha” 😂 it sounds so cheesy when I think about it

in Germany, we would say "es tut meir leid" which actually translates to "it is hurting me" so we're actually complaining

If you grew up under Republican rule it's very oppressive. You have to walk, talk, look and act a certain way. You are taught your not worth the air you breath. So your sorry for everything and say it

'sorry' for inconveniencing you, or my lack of patience. but i notice a difference between North West and South. S uses it legitimately whereas everyone else seems to use it as an excuse to be rude.

I think it really just depends where you’re from and how you were raised. For me my constant apologizing stems from anxiety and a fear that I’m somehow in someone’s way or otherwise inconveniencing them, which I never want to do. I want to be as unobtrusive as possible, and if I feel I’ve potentially caused undue inconvenience, I want to clear it up and apologize asap. But again that’s just me and my anxiety, idk if it’s a universal theme for the majority of people in the US (I dunno if this was as insightful as my usual comments on your posts, but I like seeing the cultural differences and trying to explain/understand them).

Haha yeah, I say sorry way too much. It’s almost like a safety blanket to make sure you don’t upset anyone, we just are really overly polite over here

Depends on location and person. My stepdad says “Excuse me” so does my mom, I say “‘Scuse me, sorry” and some people just say “Sorry”
