5 things I WON’T do on my period, and why 🩸 I used to have baaad painful periods, and over the years I’ve learnt so much about how my body works. I’ve managed to naturally take my pain from a 9/10 to a 3/10 most cycles (and once even NO cramps 😭) 1. Let my feet get cold 🧦 There’s a reason I’m always wearing fluffy socks on my period 😂 Cold temperatures cause blood vessels to constrict, whereas warmth can help ease muscle tension. Keeping my body warm, especially my lower tummy and feet, is something I really prioritise when cramping. There’s a science behind hot water bottles girlies!! 2. Skip magnesium 💊 Magnesium supports muscle relaxation and may help ease period cramps. Stress can also affect how our bodies regulate magnesium, so I make sure I’m getting enough! I take magnesium glycinate every night and prioritise leafy greens, pumpkin seeds and dark choc! 3. Eat dessert before dinner 🍫 And no, I’m not saying don’t eat dessert!! I have the biggest sweet tooth 😂 But eating something sugary on an empty stomach can cause a bigger blood sugar spike. Keeping my blood sugar stable helps me feel better throughout my cycle, so it’s one of those small changes I’m mindful of. 4. Go more than 3–4 hours without eating 🍽️ This is a BIG one for me. Going too long without eating can leave your blood sugar dipping and your energy crashing. I try to eat regularly, prioritise protein and make sure I’m actually giving my body enough energy. Fuel up girlies!! 5. Force myself to be social when I need rest 🧘🏽‍♀️ I’ve become so much better at listening to my body instead of feeling guilty for slowing down. Toxic productivity is BANNED here. My body is already working overtime, there is nothing wrong with resting (bed rotting on day 1 for the win). Everyone’s cycle is different, but these little habits have made such a difference to mine 🫶🏼 What are your period non-negotiables? #periodhealth #periodcramps #menstrualcycle #hormonehealth #womenshealth
