I asked my engineer husband about this and he said the watch would only register elevation when there is movement with the accelerometer which would not happen in a car.

I believe they used ‘3 meter’ metric vs ‘feet’ to mislead the jury. If you don’t know 3 meters =9 feet 10.11 inches one could assume a ‘small incline’, hence a road while driving . 🤔🤷♀️
