Casting it too early is the big danger. Not everyone have stuff to cast that early, but by turn 3 and 4, people HAVE to cast things. I've had better runs with it on turn 3-4 than when I played it as soon as possible.

so, he paid 4 mana to force a discard and cast a convolute slowing down the table. the fact that p3 ran out of lands to play makes me think he had a lot of rocks to play out so slowing him is big

The Fish is casual Rhystic Study. If the table is smart, the Remora player just gets 2-3 turns where they don't have to contend with other players value pieces.
