I got to composite the new @mo.co trailer with Double Plus Productions for @Super Cell 😊 I wanted to talk about the trend towards working in a square format that you never actually see in the final frame; These days you ignore vertical video at your own peril, so there are different approaches to making it work. Just a note: Working in a square format has its own challenges too. You still have to accommodate both landscape and portrait ratios as you go, which limits your compositional options. For instance - a static, wide shot crammed with characters is impossible in a vertical video. The important thing is to decide which format you’re aiming for when you begin a project (horizontal, vertical, or both). Choosing one over the other gives you real freedom in that format, but it might not look pretty if you decide to crop it to the other.
