In her letter to her host family, Issa wrote about how much she loves sleep—and let me tell you, she wasn’t kidding. Issa and Aziza have demonstrated an Olympic-level talent for dozing off just about anywhere. I’ve snapped a collection of “sleep sightings” throughout their exchange year. A good number are from my classroom—since the girls are often there before school, sometimes during lunch, and once again after school, like very tired boomerangs. Issa, in particular, has a magical ability to fall asleep right before my 4th hour class. So naturally, this inspired a wholesome, scholarly activity: “How many things can we stack on her or around her before she wakes up?” The answer?
