for short trips in the city just get a Ev, range is not an issue, and evs don't waste fuel / energy when stopped. Most of the downsides of EVs don't apply in the city.

In a city environment its better to just walk or take public transportation or ride a bicycle. But yeah petrol better in that regard diesel only good if you live far from your workplace
