What if my inciting incident had already happened? Well, technically, I CAN count the resurrection of my mc as that, not their death, but... one thing could not have happened without the other🤷

How do you let the readers know what the character wants without outright telling it? What my MC wants is to look himself in the eyes through a mirror and forgive himself, but it doesn’t feel right to just say it at the very beginning.

Maybe a person :
What if the first time the reader sees them they are falling down to their death and they use direct address to ask the reader if they want to know how they got here and if the reader doesn’t then he tells them to shut the book and watch something

how to take readers back in past,
like 20 years ago or after 10 years. How to write it that it won't feel too plain or come out of nowhere?

someone please judge my synopsis
I’ve always wanted to be kidnapped… okay, maybe that’s a bit too direct. Let’s say taken. You know—by those dangerously hot mafia men. Like in those spicy, mildly problematic romance books I inhale at 2 a.m.
Maybe I’m insane. Maybe dressing up like a dollar-store seductress and walking into the first sketchy alley I could find wasn’t the best idea. But who cares? YOLO.
I was expecting a lot—cold stares, maybe handcuffs. But not a gun pointed at my face and my so-called project husband saying, “Kill her.”
Yeah… the books definitely didn’t prepare me for this part.
