The butterfly comment always get me likeeee a butterfly is for lab work. An IV stays in your vein for other reasons 😒

The thing is, some of us ARE hard sticks and some of you egotistical nurses don’t want to listen! It sucks when you hit your 2 stick limit, but it’s also funny! Listening to your patient isn’t a bad thing!

and this is why its hard to trust nurses, knowing they mock patients. We wouldn't tell a nurse these things if we hadn't experienced torture from blood draws and IV placement in the past.

I've been a nurse for 32 years. I agree with everything the PATIENT is saying. First day or 30 years, people are hard sticks, some do have rolling veins. A patient trying to avoid unnecessary sticks is not an inconvenience. They are just trying to save you time and themselves some pain.

All the above…same nursing “attitude” (I’m also a nurse), my daughter got stuck 7 times. Had to call an anesthesiologist to start an IV for bloodwork. He too had to use a vein finder. Patients know their own bodies.

See I LOVE when they tell me their history. Tell me if you have a juicy vein I didn’t see. Tell me if they always have to use the vein finder or ultrasound. Why waste everyone’s time and hurt my

Joke about it all you want, but I really don’t like getting stuck 3-4 times because I may offend a nurse. I’m 59 yo, I think I know my body. You don’t like patients telling you about their bodies you’re in the wrong job.

I get stabbed 7 times then they call the iv team everytime. I tell them everytime “I have bad vains” and I get “oh I’ll be the one who gets it” 🙃

As an RN, Im two strikes and Im out! And I wont even attempt if I feel like I cant get it. There are nurses with better IV skills. I also listen to my patients. Tell me where you prefer and Ill try.

Maybe they say this cause they’ve had really bad experiences. I know I have. I’ve also had significant medical trauma and so I try to overcommunicate with my providers compassion rather than sarcasm goes a long way.

Me terrified because the last two times I’ve had an iv I got blood clots. So now I know if I verbalize that fear I run the chance they will make fun of me. Great. Love healthcare mean girls. 🙄

saying any of this does not help your phlebotomist whatsoever. even the best phlebotomist has plenty of misses, it is not an exact science and no amount of preparation or "warnings" will ensure success. advocating during phleb would be sharing anything that would help make the experience more tolerable for you psychologically or letting us know if you've had a history of adverse reactions.

This trends with the video I saw earlier of someone leaving nursing because all the “mean” girls from high school became nurses!!

TikTok videos from nurses have blown me away. I have always respected nurses so much but I have now learned that many of them can’t stand their patients, are annoyed by their families, don’t want us to talk, etc. Makes me sad, and scared to be in the hospital

I don’t believe this went the way you wanted it to. Patients have a right to explain to you what they KNOW about their bodies. Just listen and smile. If you don’t want to listen then find someone else to stick them.

Hospital Phleb here, first words out of my mouth are 'OK where's your good luck spots?' Patient knows their bodies better than I do.. Secondly I'm making a deal with them. The first stick is theirs, I will try wherever they point to within the rules, if they point me to the right spot, awesome! If their spot doesnt work then the second stick is mine.

we say that because we've been stuck so many times, very painfully. I had one literally DIG around trying to hit my small, rolling vein
