I am an atheist because there is no evidence of a god. So there is no god. I don’t think agnostic is the right term

I have called myself agnostic since I left my religion in my early 20s because I have always understood atheist to mean you don’t believe in god

I wouldn't like to call myself agnostic, it sounds wishy washy. Like you're fence sitting, ready to be swayed by the theists or some revelatory experience at any time lol.

Agnostic atheist is the best shorthand, but it’s still a mouthful. I don’t like agnostic alone because it implies a sense of real fence sitting.

I hate that we have to be so… specific with these definitions? I mostly choose to identify as atheist over agnostic with hope that evangelicals know I mean business and don’t try to convert me

The first video I saw from you was actually the 'why I'm an atheist and not an agnostic' one, and as an agnostic, I didn’t quite agree. I felt you missed some of the questions we tend to ask. Agnosticism isn’t just ‘I’m not sure’. We consider different possibilities, make assumptions, ask questions and sometimes accept that everyone might have their own reality. Half of my family are atheists, and they definitely wouldn’t call themselves agnostics 😄. It’s more important why you stand where you stand than how it's called though 🤷‍♀️

So am I torn. Modernity has lost its linguistic bearings. It devolves to the lowest general notions of the meanings of what used to be precise terms.

Putting aside definitions being the amorphous constructs they are, what if you consider your atheism to mean "I have no need for a god", whether one exists or not?

I appreciate how so much of what you say is a conversation and a true thought process. You are a wealth of knowledge without being closed minded.

I have always said that I and everyone are agnostic, as in nobody knows if there is a God. However I was always berrated as a fence sitter. I now call myself an agnostic atheist because I don't know,

I feel about god the way I do about life in the universe. Can I prove life out there exists, no, do I believe there is life out there, 100%. With god, can I prove he doesn’t exist, no, do I believe he exists, 100% not. So atheist feels right for me.

I dont call myself anything. I only have to think about it when religious people are confused and ask me to define it. I can't and don't want to, I just don't believe in the way they follow their god

I used "agnostic" for a while just because of the connotation issue you mention around atheism - but realized people were way more likely to think they could convert me, so I went back to "atheist"

if a atheist change to calling themselves agnostic it doesn't make it clear enough they dont believe in god which is the problem

I think language is meant for understanding each other. If a different word gets my meaning across more effectively, I use the different word.
