Something else you need to know is that the iconic steam locomotive may be switched out for the diesel (just looks like a regular train) at any time and without warning. This is sometimes done during the warmer months when there is higher fire risk. It happened to me last week, I travelled there and waited for the train only for it to not be the steam locomotive. It was a disappointing but honestly kind of funny experience for all of us tourists lol. All standing there for ages with cameras ready only for the biggest letdown ever hahaha

Wish it was running in November when i visit, i am still going to go see the viaduct but would rather ride the train over it 🤷🏻♂️either way im excited

it's concrete, ugly up close and surrounded by dry trampled earth from the thousands of tourists. the road is blocked by cars parked on the verge for miles either side.

I'm about to book the tour "From Edinburgh: 1-Day Glenfinnan Viaduct, Hairy Coos & The Highlands" but I have one question regarding the tour. When watching the train crossing the Glenfinnan Viaduct, are we seeing it coming toward us or are we seeing it pass by and continue away from us? For me personally, it would be very important to see it coming toward us!
