But the reason you tie a bowline is around or on to something and that flying bowline wont work. So there is not many uses that I can think of.

We called it the "Hollywood knot" but it's not a bowline if it doesn't bite on itself

When this was taught to me way back when, they called it a tugboat bowline.

Know it as the tugboat… a flying bowline is just a bowline you tie and throw in the air… ask how to tie the draggin bowline
