I am ʻgrateful that my mother took the effort to "guide" me. She was gentle but passed on what I believe to be necessary skills to successfully live with other humans.

Yes, and no, parents are not bosses. We are guides and here to help support their growth; it's not so simple as to let your child do whatever. Cherish them, allow them to be themselves, and help them learn through your experience and teach them through theirs.

I agree with him. I'm a millionaire from Australia. I guide my kids but I allow them to make informed decisions. we're all separate beings. sometimes they have more wisdom than me. my parents indirectly forced many things on me one of which was an arranged marriage which has been a total disaster but it didn't crush me.

When I was pregnant with my 19 year old daughter I always said to myself that “ she is not mine to keep “ it’s just a quote I kept telling myself throughout my pregnancy and now she’s 19 and I am great full to be reminded of this… I did nurture, guide and protect her as an infant, child and teen and now I am having trouble letting go… why? Why?
