My cousin had the exact same diagnosis at the same time as Jim Henson while on vacation in Florida. They went to the hospital and he spent a week in the hospital. Henson was not the only one who died of that, it was going all over at that time a particularly deadly strain.

I thought I just had the flu when I actually had severe sepsis had my dr not called me on a Saturday night after getting my cultures and telling me to immediately go to the hospital I could have died
