Whether in Paley’s eyes or mine, this piece is sheer beauty. For those of you who collect coveted #Chanel, you will know this was from the Pre-Fall 2010 Paris–Shanghai collection. These themes spiral with irony, too, as I believe it embodies the very DNA of Coco; a whisper even told me it’s been said that Gabrielle Chanel may even have taken inspiration from Chinese quilting for her iconic house-signature classic flap bag! This exquisite medium double handbag also has a timeless chic, with its striking khaki, reptile-like sequins, which just as easily could make one think of ancient samurai armour. We already know of Karl’s propensity and tendency to take inspiration from cultural histories, with his aged bronze hardware being inspired partly by #China. Fully lined in nightly noir satin, it’s an elusive design that I’m simply besotted with. It’s like drama dancing with glamour. P.S.
